WHAT’S AN EMAIL NEWSLETTER?
The communication you will send out consistently (weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly) to people subscribed to your mailing list. These people are your readership and customers. They are the people that read your books or will likely read their books in the future.
Your email newsletters will assist you in creating continuous brand awareness. They relay your messages, assists you to market and help build trust between your customers and you as an author.
WHY IS BUILDING AN EMAIL LIST IMPORTANT?
- Emails are an effective way of communicating with your audience.
- Your email list enables you to market your books and services.
- Emails are an effective way of driving traffic to your blog.
- You are free to communicate with people without the interference of algorithms that determine who gets to see what you share. Furthermore, you don’t have to pay to get your email seen.
- You will own your emailing list. This is important because you should not entirely rely on social media platforms as the only avenue to communicate with people interested in your work.
CONNECT WITH YOUR CUSTOMERS
Developing and growing a built-in community of people interested in your work is a valuable investment. It’s also worth noting that most publishers expect authors to have a pre-existing platform. As such, the sooner you start building your platform, the better. Once created, use opportunities afforded to you to mention the existence of your email list. Ensure that you include a signup link to your website on other platforms you use.
If you are an author with a blog, your email newsletter will be an effective way to share your new blog posts, thereby driving traffic to your author website. The content that you share on your blog will become an incentive for readers to stay connected.
In our next blog post, we will go into detail and explain our seven-step framework on how you can go about writing your newsletters. You will learn to keep your readership engaged, and when the time comes to promote your books and services, you will have people waiting and willing to listen to your big news.
